A tiny Victorian beach house was put on wheels and rolled along Oceanside, California’s waterfront to become a focal point in the largest beachfront development on the San Diego coastline in over 50 years. Why would developers want this decrepit 500 square foot building in the midst of two spectacular new resorts? The historic 1887 cottage is an Oceanside Pier landmark and was featured in the 1986 Tom Cruise blockbuster “Top Gun” as the home of Kelly McGillis’ character. It will house part of the retail offerings at the Mission Pacific Hotel, a Joie de Vivre Hotel, and The Seabird Resort, a Destination Hotel.

Mission Pacific Hotel, will be a 158-room, 7-story boutique hotel with restaurant, coffee shop, meeting space, spa and fitness, and outdoor bar and pool deck. The adjacent Seabird Resort will have 226 rooms with ballroom and event space, spa, restaurants, lounge, and outdoor pool deck. Both resorts are slated for a 2021 opening — with the little blue house linking them to Oceanside’s roots.
