San Diego, California’s second largest oceanfront city is a hot bed for both new hotel development and innovative design. Kimpton’s Hotel Solamar was recently featured in Hospitality Design’s recap of the city’s most design-forward hotels.
Overall, the design reflects the “casual Southern California lifestyle with a bit of bohemian flair,” says David Lasker, principal of Paletteur Design. “We infused the palette with youthful colors and finishes that reflect the vibrancy of the Gaslamp Quarter.”
San Francisco-based Paletteur Design was tasked with new concepts for the renovation of 237 guest rooms, lobby, public areas and the JSix restaurant. Guestrooms exude energy with eggplant-hued ostrich leather headboards, chevron-patterned bedside tables, geometric gold wallpaper, faceted gold lamps, and black and white bathrooms that feature surfboard-shaped vanity mirrors.
Bray Whaler has provided procurement for more than 50 highly-designed boutique hotels; many of which are in southern California.
