First-time developers, George and Charlie Cardon approached Avenue to create a vision for Edison House, which was then brought to life by HKS Architects & Designers. This vision became a culmination of luxury and industrial typologies. Featuring a palette of selected materials, custom furnishings, and commissioned artworks which provides members with a truly unique hospitality experience.
In terms of its structure, the club is effectively a handful of venues compiled under one roof. A moody Speakeasy transitions into a lively sports bar – named ‘The Atrium’ – without a hitch, followed then by the Piano Parlor. Andrea DeRosa, Avenue Co-Founder and Principal Designer and MacKenzie Bergeron, Lead Project Designer, point to this space as one of the project’s best: “[It’s] the jewel box of Edison House. This room features plush diamond tufted walls, a custom-painted baby grand piano, sumptuous lounge seating, vintage-inspired wall sconces, and floral wall-to-wall carpet, flanked by lavish velvet drapery. It’s a real showstopper!”
Avenue’s thoughtful concept and detailed schematic planning can be found in every one of these unique interior environments. As the first members club to be established in Salt Lake City, Edison House’s spaces utilize rich wood tones – inspired by the region’s natural prowess – in combination with metalwork, colorful patterns, and dramatic lighting to create that perfect aura of luxury. Lush greenery is also a key component to this design concept, giving each space a freshness that welcomes members in and encourages them to stay a while.
Edison House isn’t like other members clubs. It eludes the typology of homogeneity and exclusivity and has instead been designed to foster diversity and community. It’s a member’s club which reaches out to every corner of society, and this concept was infused into the building’s architecture. Solid brick massing was taken down and replaced with an open façade, designed with a contemporary style to effectively communicate the club’s message.
This intrinsic value means Edison House’s members can enjoy a high-end social atmosphere with a palpable sense of community. With lounges, bars, and an open-air pool deck to enjoy, the venue is suited to accommodate whatever fun or relaxation members wish to participate in. The fitness center awaits the active and energetic, and the private karaoke room provides room enough for everyone’s voice. Whatever area they want to enjoy, Edison Houses design embraces members into a close-knit social and interactive community, from which they can access networking events, live performances, educational seminars, and workout classes MacKenzie added that despite the challenges of working throughout the pandemic, Avenue had “the distinct pleasure of working alongside a collaborative and engaging ownership team that was further bolstered by notable and knowledgeable industry professionals.” The team are proud to say that Edison House is a unique project which fits perfectly into the Salt Lake City hospitality landscape.
Since opening its doors, Edison House has received an overwhelmingly positive response from both current and prospective members who have marveled at Avenue’s interior design work. It has become a go-to destination for the city’s residents and tourists, and there has been no shortage of praise from further afield.
MacKenzie told PREMIER HOSPITALITY INTERNATIONAL that seeing Edison House’s success “has provided a great sense of accomplishment and fulfillment for our team” and that the project “is an excellent addition to Avenue’s growing portfolio of work.”

Our world revolves around making a beautiful design a reality and keeping within budget and timeline. We worked hand in hand with the design firm Avenue ID out of Los Angeles to make this happen for our wonderful clients, brothers Charlie Cardon and George Cardon-Bystry.
Project Director Cara Osborn commented: “Edison House holds an exceptional place in my heart. It started with two brothers and their social club idea in Salt Lake City. Seeing it all come to fruition was one of the most rewarding experiences I have had working at Bray Whaler. It’s a truly one-of-a-kind project, and the opportunity to work so intimately with the owners made the whole thing very special. It was a fantastic experience, from the handpicked antique rugs our suppliers helped cut/bind, to the 40 disco balls in the karaoke lounge.”
